imageISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning, Development and Reform, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal has said that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was in Pakistan's interest.

Prof. Ahsan Iqbal stated this while meeting with Afghanistan's ambassador to Pakistan Janan Mosazai here .

"Peace and security of Pakistan and Afghanistan are interlinked because presence of long porous border between the two neighboring countries ", Prof. Ahsan Iqbal remarked.

Janan Mosazai and Prof. Ahsan Iqbal discussed various possibilities for enhancing cooperation between two countries, regional peace and stability and economic activities.

The Minister said, "Time has come to move from geo-strategic to geo-economic cooperation in order to harness geographical potential".

He added that greater economic cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan is vital for integrating the mass of 3 billion people around the region including China, South Asia and Central Asia.

"Uncertainty and instability in the region is hindering regional connectivity while terrorism and extremism is our common enemy. There is a need to enhance mutual cooperation and interaction to tackle destabilizing elements", he remarked.

Ambassador Janan Mosazai appreciated the Government of Pakistan for providing scholarships to Afghan nationals in much desired field of science, technology and medicine in a large number and agreed with the Minister that economic cooperation needs to be enhanced manifold between the two countries.
