imageKARACHI: As expected former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif Wednesday refused to takeover as the head of Pakistan Cricket Board Selection Committee.

Rashid Latif has expressed his reluctance to join PCB as chief selector because of prevailing enviroments and conditions in PCB.

However, he dispelled the impressions of any friction between him and the PCB. He categorically said that he didn't want to instigate a controversy with uncalled for remarks.

"The PCB considered me for the important slot and I, after thorough consideration, politely turned it down," he said.

"Despite all sorts of conspiracy theories in the media I firmly state that I had no rift with the PCB. I hope Pakistan cricket will flourish under the current leadership and I thank the PCB chairman for considering me for the post of chief selector", former wicketkeeper/batsman, said.

PCB offered the post of chief selector to Rashid Latif, along with looking after anti-corruption unit of the board.

He also confirmed that he had also refused to hold any position in the Anti-corruption Unit.

"This is my first and last statement regarding the PCB. I will keep supporting all the positive endeavours of the PCB in the future", he commented.

Rashid Latif however said he had accepted a request from Afghanistan coach Kabir Khan to provide training and coaching in wicket-keeping to Afghan players.

"I received a call from Afghan chief coach Kabir Khan today to impart training as a wicket-keeping coach," he said.

According to reports a short training camp of Afghan team will be held here in the city from April 17.

Another report said that former Pakistan captain Aamir Sohail will be supervising the training camp of Afghan team.

When contacted a spokesman of PCB said they have no knowledge where the training camp will be held in Karachi nor they have so far received any request from Afghanistan Cricket Association for the ground etc.
