imageLAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in collaboration with Labour Department will hold Made in Punjab Exhibition on the occasion of South Asia Labour Conference (SALC-2014) scheduled for April 24-26 in Lahore.

The consensus was developed at a meeting between LCCI President Engineer Sohail Lashari and Provincial Secretary Labour Capt (R) Muhammad Yousaf here Monday.

The LCCI Senior Vice President Mian Tariq Misbah, Vice President Kashif Anwar, former SVP Malik Tahir Javaid and the PESSI (Punjab Employees Social Security Institution) Commissioner Farhan Aziz Khawaja also spoke on the occasion.

Both the sides agreed that the SALC-2014 would be a golden opportunity for Punjab's business community to show its strength as around 700 foreign and local dignitaries would participate in the conference and exhibition.

The Lahore Chamber and Punjab Labour Department would join hands to make these events a big success, therefore, both the sides decided to appoint their respective focal persons to enhance the interaction for the upcoming events.

Highlighting the SALC objectives, the Provincial Secretary Labour said, the conference would not only strengthen cooperation among the labour organizations in the SAARC countries but also help Pakistani employers and employees to learn about the best labour practices.

A number of diplomats including the Ambassadors of China and Turkey would also participate in the SALC-2014, he said, adding that there would be many technical sessions and in the light of the SALC speakers' recommendations, Labour Policy would be finalized and announced on May 1, 2014.

He added that European Union, International Labour Organisation (ILO) and SAARC delegations would also speak on the technical sessions of this internation conference that is first of its kind in Lahore.

While, Sohail Lashari appreciated Punjab government for holding such a mega event aimed at highlighting the soft image of the country, assuring that LCCI would motivate its members for these events as it was the most opportune time to bring to the limelight the potential of this part of the world.

He also declared LCCI former Senior Vice President and Chairman of the LCCI Labour Committee as Focal Person for the SALC-2014.

Lashari said that since a large number of foreigners were also taking part in SALC-2014, the LCCI wanted business-to-business meetings on the sidelines of the conference and the exhibition.

It was a great initiative of Punjab Government that would help bring foreign investment and enhance exports, while, the proposed three-day Conference would provide an opportunity to foreign entrepreneurs to have first hand knowledge about Pakistan's level compliance of international standards, he maintained.

The SVP Mian Tariq Misbah said the Lahore Chamber was willing to take lead role for the conference and the exhibition.

While, the VP Kashif Anwar said, "We are an excellent nation and international standards compliant. Our products are best of the best but unfortunately, we have failed to showcase these potentials. Now is the time to tell the world that we have best brains and are producing quality products."
