Pakistan TextileISLAMABAD: Despite challenges of energy, the textile exports surged by 46.56 percent during April 2010 as compared to the exports of the same month of last year.

However, as compared to the exports of March 2011, textile exports witnessed slight increase of 1.74 during April 2011, Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) reported.

Textile exports in April 2011 were recorded at US$ 1.270 billion as against the exports of US$1.249 billion in March 2011 and US$867.105 million during April 2010.

The overall exports during the first ten months of the current fiscal year also surged by 32.05 percent as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

Exports during July-April (2010-11) were recorded at US$11.148 billion as against the exports of US$8.44 billion during July-April (2009-10), the FBS data said.

The textile groups that contributed in positive growth in exports during July-April (2010-11) included raw cotton, exports of which increased by 35.83 percent.

The other products that witnessed increase in exports included cotton yarn, and cotton cloths, exports of which increased by 36.49 percent and 31.62 percent respectively.

Similarly exports of cotton (carded or combed) increased by 28.35 percent, yarn other than cotton yarn 12.50 percent, knitwear 34.48 percent and bed wear 22.28 percent.

The exports of towels also increased by 18.67 percent, readymade garments 38.90 percent, art, silk and synthetic textile 53.83 percent, madeup articles (excluding towels and bed wear) 30.37 percent while the exports of other textile commodities increased by 44.57 percent.

The only textile group that witnessed negative growth in exports during the period under review was tents, canvas and tarpaulin, exports of which witnessed negative growth of 32.98 percent, the data revealed.

On the other hand, the food export from the country registered an increase of 29.07 during July-April (2010-11). Food exports during the period stood at US$ 3.528 billion against the exports of US$2.733 billion last year.
