imageLAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that the PML-N led government would pursue such policies which could turn Punjab into a prosperous province.

"We will come up to the peoples expectations," he said while addressing the Punjab Assembly session here on Wednesday.

He said Finance Minister presented a comprehensive budget in the House and during his budget speech, he stated the development vision and important targets of the government.

He said opposition leader and leaders of other parties gave proposals regarding budget and expressed their point of view.

He thanked members for taking part in the budget discussion. He assured the House that the process of consultation with honourable members would also continue in future and full benefit would be taken from their proposals.

The Chief Minister said the country was facing numerous problems including terrorism. He said the serious problem being faced by the country was loadshedding as this is the problem of 180 million people of Pakistan.

He said energy crisis has become the issue of survival of the country. If there is electricity, he said, the future of the country would be bright.

He said that overcoming energy crisis was a big challenge, however, PML-N have accepted this challenge. Shahbaz said energy crisis would be certainly overcome through collective wisdom and untiring efforts.

He vowed that country would have to be made self-reliant for breaking the begging bowl. The Chief Minister said the government has allocated Rs 22 billion for eliminating energy crisis, however, this amount was not sufficient and Punjab government have to allocate more billions of rupees for this purpose.

He said that energy projects would have to be implemented through public private partnership. He said PML-N government was working round the clock for solving energy crisis and the process of dialogue was continuing with the energy experts and companies.

Later, talking to media outside Punjab Assembly, Shahbaz Sharif said the government has given best budget in difficult situation. He said no burden was put on the common man but elite has been brought into the tax net.

Replying to a question about the treason case against Pervaiz Musharaf, the Chief Minister said that this case did not relate to October 12, rather it relates to suo moto notice taken by the Supreme Court regarding making the judges house arrest by Pervaiz Musharaf.

He said, "PML-N believes in upremacy of law and the constitution." He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has no vindictive intention against anyone but his aim is to bring the people out of the problems.

To another question Shahbaz Sharif replied that terrorism was also a big problem and the federal government was going to convene an all parties conference soon for adopting national approach to overcome this problem in which the national policy would be given a final shape in consultation with all stakeholders.
