ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday sought names of the responsible who sanctioned illegal funds worth Rs. 47 billion on the directions by the former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.
The apex court also directed the concerned authorities to stop issuing further funds as allocated and approved by the former premier.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the sou moto case regarding the issuance of development funds by the former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf in his home constituency.
The bench also sought a detailed report of the relevant record within three days.
The bench directed the Secretary Finance to clear his stance over the issuing of funds worth billions till the evening of the same day.
The apex court also issued notices to the Attorney General for Pakistan, Special Secretary of the Prime Minister and Secretary Planning and Development seeking their view points on the matter. During the course of proceeding, the chief justice remarked that the money does not own by an individual as it comes from the public exchequer and one cannot use it while exercising his discretionary powers.
The CJ observed that all the funds were utilized in a specific area and development schemes were initiated at one place while ignoring the whole country.
Finance secretary Nergis Sethi apprised the court that she went through almost 149 development schemes and found no monitoring system on any of them.
She also informed the court that on March 15 she was directed to release the funds for these schemes but she refused to do so. However, court while issuing notices adjourned further hearing of the case till April 30.
