ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to take action against its officials over negligence in the National Insurance Company Ltd (NICL) scam.
The three-member bench comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan Ifthikar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Gulzar Ahmed resumed hearing of the NICL corruption case.
During the course of proceedings, Director Legal FIA Azam Khan presented the report about the investigations into the case before the apex court.
He informed the court that five accused were absconding and the FIA had written a letter to the Ministry of Interior to put their names on the Exit Control List (ECL).
The Chief Justice asked how absconders were being granted bail and also sought details of the bail granted to Mohsin Habib and Amin Faheem.
The Director Legal FIA informed the court that Mohammad Akram Cheema had deposited a cheque of Rs 42 million, which was bounced and accused Chaudhry Muhammad Akram had gone underground to avoid arrest.
He said that Mohsin Habib was in the United Kingdom and the Islamabad High Court had granted him one month bail.
The Chief Justice asked the FIA Director Legal that how Mohsin Habib got bail while he was absconder.
Later, the apex court sought bail record of Mohsin Habib and Amin Faheem.
