xxx8ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research (NFSR) has directed the Ministry of NFSR to submit report on its last 3 years performance.

Besides, the committee also asked that the seasonal vegetable and fruits should be preserved.

Such directions were issued by the meeting of committee held with Senator Syed Muzafar Hussain Shah in the chair here on Tuesday.

The Chairman said the report on targets of crop productions should be presented and the report should also include the reasons of not achieving the targets, if the production of crop was suppressed during 2011-12.

Speaking in the meeting of committee, Senator Hari Ram said that the ministry should ensure the availability of better inputs for crops including seeds and fertilizer.

Moreover, the committee sought a detailed report on appointments made in Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) and Pakistan Agriculture Storage and Service Corporation Limited (PASSCO).

In this regard, PARC and PASSCO should consult the law ministry regarding legal opinion for the appointments made, the committee gave the suggestion.

It was told to the committee that the contract was given to SUPARCO to monitor the standing crops across the country through satellite.

The meeting was attended by Senators, Hari Ram, Muhammad Kazim Khan, Naseema Ehasan and Nuzhat Sadiq.
