TUNIS: Tunisian police on Wednesday fired tear gas at thousands of protesters gathered outside the interior ministry in central Tunis to denounce the murder of an opposition leader, an AFP journalist reported.
The protesters, who massed outside the ministry on Habib Bourguiba Avenue, epicentre of the 2011 uprising that ousted ex-dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, pelted the police with bottles.
The police then responded by firing tear gas, chasing the protesters and beating them with batons.
