LAHORE: Punjab Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed the Punjab Curriculum and Text Book Board (Amendment) Bill 2020. The bill was presented by PML-Q legislator Khadeeja Umar.

After the passage of bill, Islamic content of Islamic Studies, Pakistan History, Urdu Literature and other subjects will not be published in textbooks until the Muttahida Ulema Board Punjab approves it.

According to the bill, Punjab Curriculum and Text Book Board is bound to take approval from Muttahida Ulema Board, Punjab.

With the efforts of the Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, this bill was passed in the House to stop the publishing of blasphemous material in the text books against Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), his Companions and Ahle Bait (RA).

Schools education minister Murad Rass said in the past, department had taken strict action against publishers who were involved in such kind of activities as well as cases were registered against them.

The department had constituted 30 committees as well as established a help line so that people can register a complaint against any such activity.

The Punjab Assembly on Tuesday also unanimously passed a resolution for the construction of Diamer-Bhasha dam. The resolution was presented by PTI MPA Momina Waheed. According to the resolution, the House paid rich tributes to federal government for its decision to start the construction of dam.

The dam after its completion will be able to generate 4500 MW of electricity. It will irrigate 1.2 million acres of land.

The construction of Bhasha Dam will extend the life of Tarbela Dam by 35 years. Construction of the dam will also provide employment to more than 16,000 people.

The House passed a resolution presented by PML-N MPA Chaudhry Iftikhar Hussain Chachar to set up a filtration plant for water supply.

The House also passed a resolution with majority for the protection of mothers in connection with the World Women Day.

The resolution was presented by PTI MPA Shaheena Kareem.

The House also passed a resolution in recognition of the service of late Prof Warris Mir for journalism and his struggle for democracy. The resolution was presented by PML-N MPA Khalil Tahir Sindhu.

Earlier, Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervez Elahi showed his displeasure on the absence of food minister Abdul Aleem Khan during a question hour on food department. The speaker suspended all questions regarding food department after parliamentary secretary Rai Zahoor failed to give correct answers of the questions.

He also said minister will give answer of these questions in the House after complete preparation.

PML-N also staged a token walk out in the House on the completion of one year of the arrest of opposition leader Hamza Shahbaz by the NAB.

Former education minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan said government failed to file a reference against Hamza Shahbaz in one year.
