LAHORE: Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervez Elahi on Monday showed his dissatisfaction on the measures taken by the Punjab government for the uplift of the agriculture sector of the province.
While giving his remarks during the question hour on agriculture Elahi said that it looks that government is not serious in solving the problems of the farmers. He also said that farmers are not getting good quality seeds.
He also said if the government shows its seriousness he is ready to arrange a meeting of the government with the seed manufacturing companies.
He further said that there were the times when wheat of Punjab was of best quality but now its quality is worst while quality of Indian seed considered to be better than Pakistan.
Pervez Elahi also said that agriculture universities had done nothing in the field of research. He said that no university had produced seed of international quality.
PML (N) MPA Sardar Awais Laghari said that it is difficult that we will achieve cotton production target. He also said that may be sugar mafia may spoiled the quality of cotton seeds. He said we invest 5 % of GDP for research in agricultural universities.
Agriculture minister Punjab Malik Noman Ahmad Langrial admitted on the floor of the House that no Pakistani university has produced any seed of international standards. He said that one of the major reasons for the decline in cotton production is below normal rainfall however whatever amount of cotton produced is of best quality. He further said that deal with international companies during the PML (N) era for seed production was suspended.
Parliamentary leader of Pakistan People's Party Syed Hassan Murtaza while speaking on the floor of the House said that chief minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar should attend the session in these difficult times when the pandemic of corona in Punjab has become alarming.
Murtaza said Prime Minister Imran Khan used to say in his speech that corona cases are few now congratulations to the Prime Minister 100, 000 people have been affected by the epidemic and two thousand have died. Is the Prime Minister satisfied now?
While participating in the discussion on the general debate begins in Punjab Assembly for fixing fare of Orange Line train Murtaza said that government did not bring the matter in the assembly while giving subsidies to sugar and flour thieves. The government introduced the Punjab Occupational Safety and Health (Amendment Bill) 2020 in the House.
