The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for combined income group on year on year (YoY) basis has seen an increase of 11.92 percent on the week ended May 16, 2019 over the proceeding week of 2018 as it jumped from 226.56 points to 253.56 points.
According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistic (PBS), over the aforementioned period SPI for the lowest income group with monthly earning of Rs 8,000 increased by 9.39 percent from 212.48 points to 232.43 points, for income group Rs 8,000-12,000 it went up by 9.21 percent from 221.72 points to 242.13 points and for income group with monthly income of Rs 12,000-18,000 it increased by 8.93 percents from 224.11 points to 244.12 points. The SPI for the income group with monthly income of Rs 18,000-35,000 went up by 12.67 percent from 229.85 points to 259 points and for the income group with monthly income of over Rs 35,000 SPI witnessed an increase of 16.04 percent from 229.53 points to 266.34 points
However on week on week (WoW) basis during week ended on May 16, 2019 against May 9, 2019, the SPI for the combined income group reduced by 0.32 percent from 254.38 points to 253.56 points.
The weekly inflation for the lowest income group with a monthly income of Rs 8,000 declined by 0.33 percent from 233.19 points to 232.43 points, and for the income group with a monthly income of Rs 8,000 to 12,000 it went down by 0.32 percent from 242.91 points to 242.13 points. The SPI inflation reduced by 0.34 percent for the income group with monthly income of Rs12,000 to Rs 18,000 from 244.95 points to 244.12 points, for the income group with a monthly income of Rs 18,000 to Rs 35,000 it witnessed a reduction of 0.33 percent from 259.84 to 258.98 points and for the income group with over Rs 35,000 monthly income, the SPI reduced by 0.30 percent from 267.14 points to 266.34.
The weekly SPI is being computed with base 2007-08=100, covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined. During the week under review, prices of 19 items went up, prices of 7 items decreased and prices of 27 items remained unchanged.
The items whose prices increased during the week under review included: potato; gur, average quality; pulse Moong, washed; sugar, refined; wheat flour, bag; wheat; beef with bone, average quality; LPG cylinder, 11kg; powdered milk; bananas; garlic; and bread plain. The items whose prices decreased during the week under review included: tomato; onion; chicken farm, live; eggs; pulse gram, washed; red chilly; and pulse Masoor, washed.
The items whose prices remained stable during the week under review included: rice basmati broken, average quality; rice irri-6 (Punjab/ Sindh); milk fresh; curd; cooking oil; vegetable ghee; salt powder; petrol, super; soap, Lifebuoy; and others.
