This is apropos a Business Recorder op-ed "Elephant in the room" carried by the newspaper yesterday. Veteran economic journalist M. Ziauddin has impressively narrated what actually constitutes country's economic history. He has argued, among other things, that "What the then official economic managers had refused to see was that out of each aid dollar, 99 cents would go back to the donors in the shape of consultation fee, imports from donors dictated by transfer pricing system, shipping charges, etc. And the residual cent would be pocketed by the corrupt civil-military- bureaucracy."
Qarz ki peetay thay mai aur samajhtay thayk haan ... rang laweye gi hamari faqa mast aik din.
The country's debt soared to Rs 30 trillion from Rs 6 trillion in just 10 years. What more?
