Australian shares are poised to open higher on Monday, likely helped by gains in energy and metal-centric stocks on the back of soaring commodity prices and taking cues from a strong Wall Street rally on Friday.

The local share price index futures rose 0.4%, a 2.0-point premium to the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index close.

The benchmark closed 0.7% higher on Friday.

New Zealand's benchmark S&P/NZX 50 index rose 0.4% to 13059.1 in early trade.
