A delegation of Pakistan's Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) will arrive in Beijing on Sunday to hold talks with Chinese officials for evolving a long-term strategy to strengthen economic ties. The delegation is visiting on the invitation of China Council for Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) under an agreement signed during the recent visit to Islamabad by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.
The delegation to be led by EPB's Vice Chairman Zafar Mahmood will also visit Chinese major cities, Shanghai and Guangzhou to explore future business opportunities.
An official of the CCPIT, Jiang Wu said that they considered Pakistan a reliable business partner and wished to develop strong interaction and work together for socio-economic uplift of their people.
In an interview with APP, Jiang said the Chinese Premier had laid down strong foundation for stepping up trade and investment activities between the two countries.
The Chinese side had agreed to make structural arrangement to facilitate Pakistan's exporters to find out markets of their products.
The Chinese side has also shown keen interest in setting up export-oriented industries, especially in the two garments cities and one textile city that were being set up in Pakistan.
According to the Commercial counsellor in the Pakistan embassy Shahid Mahmood, their bilateral trade was likely to take quantum jump after the implementation of Early Harvesting Programme, under which both sides would be giving tariff concessions on certain items, from January 01, 2006.
"We also hope bright prospects of our trade with China, with the export of Pakistan's rice, mango and orange from this year," he said adding it was high time for Pakistani entrepreneurs to launch promotion campaign for introduction of their products in the local market.
"The major Pakistani companies are required to set up their representative offices in the Chinese major cities," he added.
