Six separatist rebels and one soldier were killed in the latest violence in Indonesia's troubled Aceh province, the military said Saturday.
Troops killed six Free Aceh Movement (GAM) rebels in separate clashes on Friday, provincial military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Asep Sapari said.
Sapari also said a soldier was killed in a gunfight at Meunasah Pre village in North Aceh on Friday. The military claims about 5,000 rebels have been killed or captured or have surrendered during a year-long operation to crush GAM, which has been fighting for independence since 1976.
Martial law was lifted last week in the resource-rich province on Sumatra island and replaced by a state of civil emergency.
