Search and rescue operations have been called off for 18 sailors missing after the explosion and sinking of a Singapore-flagged tanker off the US Atlantic coast last month, the ship's Norwegian-based owners Odfjell said Sunday.
They are assumed dead along with three mates whose bodies were found by the US coast guard after the February 28 the explosion and sinking of the tanker about 50 miles (80 kilometre's) off the Virginia coast.
Six seriously injured sailors were rescued.
The 570-foot (174-meter) vessel was carrying more than 3.5 million gallons (13.25 million liters) of industrial ethanol from New York to Houston, Texas.
The crew included 24 Philippine nationals and three Greeks - the captain, his assistant and the ship's mechanic - who were among the missing.
