LAHORE: Fodder sellers are fleecing customers in the provincial capital as nine days to go on for Eidul Azha.
The fodder sellers whether they are at cattle markets or roadside and streets are making roaring business with impunity as there is no check on the price mechanism.
Rate of Chokar (bran) has shot up to Rs 25 per kg against Rs 15 last year. Gram husk price has touched Rs 310 per 40 kg this year.
Khal (cotton seed cake) and Banola (cotton seed) are being sold out at the rate of Rs 28 against Rs 14 previous year. Chara is being sold on Rs 140 as per kg against Rs 65 per kg.
Since the feed of sacrificial animals is making the highest price record, town administrations and the city district government officials seem to be playing the role of silent spectators.
Explaining reasons behind the surge in fodder prices, a vendor Yasin Malik said, as he purchased fodder articles at exorbitant rates and he was forced to sell these items at higher prices. He asked the authorities concerned to control the wholesale markets rather than blaming vendors in the open markets.
When contacted, a spokesman of City District Government Lahore claimed that they were ensuring provision of fodder and feed at sale/purchase points on cheaper rates.
