KARACHI: The United Nations’ gender equality body UN Women on Tuesday appointed British actress Emma Watson, best known for her role as Hermione in the “Harry Potter” film series, as a goodwill ambassador to advocate for the empowerment of young women.
The international organisation also announced the appointment on the social media site, saying they were “thrilled” the actress was joining them.
Watson also expressed her joy and pleasure to work with UN to support women empowerment and gender equality. According to media sources she confirmed this news on social media. She said, “So excited to start work with the amazing people at UN Women”.
Watson is very humbled and enthusiastic to make some real life difference for the society. Media reported she said, “Women’s rights are something so inextricably linked with who I am, so deeply personal and rooted in my life that I can’t imagine an opportunity more exciting”.
The Harry Potter actress has been involve in many other philanthropic activities to promote women rights, education and freedom.
