  • Asif says defence correspondents trengthened the spirit of Pakistan’s armed forces with their responsible reporting.
  • Media played an important role in the achievements of the armed forces: Maj Gen Ghafoor.

(Karachi) The outgoing director general Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major Geneneral Asif Ghafoor, has said that it is an honour for him if Indians are happy with his transfer from the ISPR.

He expressed these views while speaking to defence correspondents belonging to the Pakistani media outlets on Thursday.

Ghafoor praised the efforts of the defence correspondents and said, “They strengthened the spirit of Pakistan’s armed forces with their responsible reporting.”

He maintained they were his ‘core team’ during his role as DG ISPR. Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor said, “Pakistan has fought a battle for its survival during the past two decades – and the defence correspondents stood by the armed forces in this fight.”

He remarked, “Media played an important role in the achievements of the armed forces.” He said that the media won the hearts of the armed forces and the families of its martyrs.

He said his successor, Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar, would take responsibility of the ISPR on February 1.

Earlier in January, Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar was posted as the new DG ISPR to replace Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor. Ghafoor has been posted as General Officer Commanding (GOC) Okara.
