Ex-captain calls for different T20 coach, after Pakistan loses series to Sri Lanka

Pakistan failed to impress in all departments said Raja. With T20 World Cup in sight Pakistan needs to correct

  • Pakistan failed to impress in all departments said Raja.
  • With T20 World Cup in sight Pakistan needs to correct its direction says the former captain.

Pakistan former captain turned cricket commentator Ramiz Raja says Pakistan needs a different coach for T20 format, alongside a power-hitting coach after the team lost the T20I home series to Sri Lanka 2-0 on Monday.

“We have to reassess the role of Misbah-ul-Haq in T20 cricket, as there is a lot of responsibilities on his shoulder, by becoming the coach in all formats. I believe that in T20 cricket we need to bring in another coach, and a power-hitter coach in order to correct our direction in this format,” said Raja, in a video.

The cricket pundit said that the team was under pressure after losing the first match, as well as Pakistan shouldn’t have made so many changes.

“The loss was expected as the team was under anxiety after the first match, and there were so many comebacks, old players were brought in and we know that they won’t be able to deliver as they would be under pressure.”

Raja also criticized the bowling attack for their lackluster show, after the inexperienced Sri Lankan batting line managed to pile up over 180 runs on the board. “Shadab [Khan] was completely off colored then we didn’t have any wicket taking bowler, whereas all our experiments failed.”

Raja also pointed out that the team lacks power-hitters, which was a serious drawback when it comes to scoring quick runs. “I believe that we need a power-hitting coach, Pakistan only hit two sixes as compared to Sri Lanka that hit some eight, nine maximums.”

The former captain said that Pakistan should have brought in young guns instead of old players as T20 cricket is a young man’s game.

“The T20 World Cup is just few games away, so Pakistan needs to correct its direction and do the right selection otherwise the team would be in a lot of trouble at the tournament.”

With an unassailable 2-0 series lead, Sri Lanka would meet Pakistan in their final outing of the tour on Wednesday, at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore.
