You never know when you might need a phone charger, water or even snacks during your ride, but thanks to Uber’s new service the drivers can now sell goods or snacks to riders on the go.

Partnering with Cargo, a startup that makes it easy for rideshare drivers to sell goods to their passengers, drivers will now have free center-console boxes filled with goods like snacks, headphones, cosmetics, charger, energy bars, gums and such, that riders can order from their phones.

Announcing about the new feature on Thursday, Uber informed that the service is currently only available in Los Angeles and San Francisco for now, but might soon expand to other cities including New York, Atlanta, and Dallas.

Uber launches new features to help simplify pickups

Though Cargo has partnered with brands including Starbucks, Kellogg’s, and Mars Wrigley Confectionery to provide the free samples and items for purchase, not all drivers will have the access to the goody boxes. Cargo chief Jeff Cripe informed that the driver should have a minimum 4.7-star rating on Uber and should be relatively active on the service, as per Tech Crunch.

Meanwhile, Uber directly said that this will give drivers ‘extra income’ in addition to tempting customers, because of which they wouldn’t have to drive for extra hours. Cargo estimated that through this initiative, drivers can earn between $1,500 and $3,000 extra income per year, wrote Engadget.

“This opened the door for Cargo to create an unparalleled level of convenience for a generation of people on the move, and our partnership with Uber will play an important role in making that vision reality,” as per Cripe.
