LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal on Tuesday directed the officers concerned to take mega corruption cases to their logical end as per law.

Addressing the NAB officers/officials during his second consecutive visit to NAB Lahore, he directed to complete all investigations of cases referred by the Supreme Court of Pakistan with letter and spirit. No negligence would be tolerated in this regard, he added.

The chairman said all accused were equal before law, adding NAB had nothing to do with general elections. "NAB will take stern action against plunderers of national wealth and will recover all the looted money from the corrupt and deposit the same to national exchequer", he maintained.

The NAB officials should not care about any browbeating or threatening languages, he said and added that they should concentrate on concluding the cases being investigated against the culprits as the whole nation looks towards NAB for elimination of corruption.

The chairman vowed to continue NAB's role in elimination of corruption with nation's support. He said the verdicts of the Supreme Court, High Courts and Accountability Courts would be implemented in letter and spirit.

Javed Iqbal directed the NAB officers to conduct Complaint Verification (CV), Inquiries and Investigations on merit with honesty and transparency besides ensuring concrete evidence and according to the law of the land. He further said NAB had recovered Rs 2,200 million from corrupt elements during last seven months.

The chairman said the NAB Lahore had recovered Rs 18 billion from the corrupt elements and returned the looted amount to affected people which had helped in increasing people's confidence on the NAB. He also lauded the performance of NAB Lahore headed by Shahzad Saleem.

On the occasion, NAB Lahore DG Shahzad Saleem briefed the chairman regarding cases referred by Supreme Court of Pakistan including the appointment of former Oversees Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti, the cases against which briefings have been given included: Inquiry agianst Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) misappropriation case, inquiry against Tariq Jawad, Makhdoom Umer Shehryar and others, whereas, inquiry against WAPDA officers in Neelum Jhelum project, inquiry against Rashid Mehmood Langrial, Jawad Qureshi, former CEO Punjab Population Innovation Fund, Zaheer Abbas Malik, CEO Punjab Health Management Company, Captain (Retd) Usman, CEO Punjab Saaf Pani Company (South), Muhammad Ali Ammar, CEO Punjab Health Facilities Management Company, Usman Saeed, former Vice President National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) Hall Road Branch, Azgard Nine and inquiry against Agritech Limited Company and a detailed briefing over Investigation against Hammad Arshad, Glubeco Private Limited DHA, Lahore City Case.
