ECP publishes final delimitation of constituencies

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday finalized and published the final delimitation of the constituencies of the national and provincial assemblies.

According to ECP, the commission had published the preliminary delimitation of constituencies of national and provincial assemblies on March 5, and continued receiving objections on these delimitation in 30 days from across the country.

The commission had received 1,286 objections on the delimitation of constituencies from throughout the country. Out of the total objections received, 689 objections were received from Punjab, 284 from Sindh, 104 from Balochistan, 181 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11 from FATA and 17 from the federal capital.

The commission had started hearing objections on the delimitation of constituencies from April 4. The process of hearing the objections was concluded on May 2.

Chief Election Commissioner had constituted various benches to hear the objections. The commission heard the hearings on daily basis for 24 days excluding Sundays and May 1st holiday.

Under Elections Act 2017, after hearing of all objections, the ECP had to publish the final delimitation of constituencies within 30 days right from the last date of submission of objections, which was due on May 3, 2018.

The commission had sent this final delimitation list to Printing Corporation of Pakistan for official gazette notification. The list could be viewed from ECP’s website www.ecp.gov.pk

During hearing on objections, the commission had issued order regarding changing the number of constituencies, which have now been corrected in final delimitation list.

The ECP had asked the political parties and general public to check the number of national and provincial assemblies’ constituencies from ECP website or gazette notification.

According to final delimitation 2018, there will be 272 National Assembly constituencies while for provincial assemblies there will be 297 constituencies for Punjab assembly, 130 for Sindh assembly, 99 for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly and 51 for Balochistan assembly.
