KAMPALA: Uganda's year-on-year inflation edged down to 1.8 percent in April from 2.0 percent the previous month on the back of a drop in food prices, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics said on Monday.

Prices slowed for some fruits which also reported that core inflation, which excludes food, fuel, electricity and metered water, climbed down to 1.6 percent for the year ended April from 1.7 percent in the twelve months to March.

Monthly headline inflation was 0.3 percent in April compared to a 0.5 percent rise last month.

Uganda captures its inflation data from the first to the 15th of each month.
