imagePESAHWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak Thursday said that Universities Amendment Bill 2016 was aimed to boost the standard of education and research in the province by bringing it at far with latest trends in the field.

This he said while presiding over a meeting of the Select Committee on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa University Amendment Act 2016 at the premises of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

Deputy Speaker Provincial Assembly Dr. Mehar Taj Roghani, Provincial Minister for Law Imtiaz Shahid Quereshi, Special Assistant to CM for Higher Education Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani, other members of the committee, government functionaries and experts attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed in detail educational and research affairs of the universities, standard and criteria for appointment and posting on administrative slots and terms of references of the universities. A number of decisions were also made on this occasion.

The Chief Minister while talking on the occasion pinpointed that the legislation was being initiated for standardization of education and research in the province. He urged the legislators to keep the long term and collective interests of the nation in making legislation. He also advised the legislators to make the University bill comprehensive and workable.

The Chief Minister elaborated that the provincial government believed in provision of uniformed opportunities of education to the people in the province. He said that practical steps were also being initiated in this regard.

He directed for making the frame of work of the universities flexible and easily extendable to the backward areas of the province. Similarly the Chief Minister also chaired the meeting of the select committee on Ehtesab Commission Amendment bill 2016.

The Chief Minister asked the committee to give final touches to the bill as earlier as possible. He explained that amendments in the Ehtesab commission bill were aimed to make the law more effective and easily implementable.

He remarked that without the process of accountability the dream of good governance could not be translated into reality. The Chief Minister stressed the need of finalization of the bill to present in the Assembly for approval.
