imageISLAMABAD: The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday decided to file a reference against Dr. Akbar Haider Soomro, Ex-principal Sindh Medical College Karachi and others for misuse of authority and cheating public at large.

The decision was taken in the Board meeting held here at NAB Headquarters under the chairmanship of Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, said spokesman of Bureau.

The accused persons had admitted 315 students against 277 allocated seats. Thus 38 students who were not eligible for admission in the first year of MBBS, were illegally admitted in Sindh Medical College Karachi.

The EBM referred back the case against Mr. M.B Awan, Ex-Senior Joint Secretary Ministry of Housing and Works and others to Director General NAB (Rawalpindi) for further investigation.In the alleged 746 illegal appointments case which caused a huge loss to the national exchequer.

The EBM also authorized two inquiries in loan default cases of Bank of Punjab (BoP) referred by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). In first case, Mr. Ahmed Humayun Sheikh defaulted on an amount of Rs. 64.979 million and in second case Mr. Ahmed Waheed Malik defaulted on an amount of Rs. 208.88 million of loan taken from BoP.

The EBM also closed two inquiries for want of prosecutable incrementing evidence against the accused.

Chairman NAB Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, on this occasion directed the senior officers to adopt proactive approach for prosecuting the cases promptly and efficiently and in a very professional manner as no one would be spared for undue delay and lethargy.

He deplored that at present, performance is not satisfactory and name of the NAB is being tarnished.

Chairman directed that all in the NAB must put their act together and establish the deterrence of NAB as an effective prosecuting agency.

He said that neither an accused against whom prosecutable evidence exists be spared nor innocent be held guilty.
