london-olympicsKARACHI: Hopes are high for the Olympic Opening Ceremony after the dress rehearsal last night, in front of a full house at the Olympic stadium, got rave reviews on Twitter. Olympics opening ceremony Director Danny Boyle asked people to keep the secret before the show, and the hashtag #savethesurprise was displayed on the screens in the stadium.

The 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony, dubbed "Isles of Wonder," will take Friday, July 27, 2012, and will bring together the world's best athletes, leaders from all reaches of the earth and dedicated sports fans in one massive spectacle.

Oscar winner Boyle, 55, and his creative team have done their best to keep most details of the opening ceremony secret. But the Director also acknowledges that in the age of social media and camera phones, keeping everything under wraps will be impossible.

Organisers have already revealed that the ceremony will feature a recreation of the British countryside, including live farmyard animals.

The theme of the ceremony is "Isles of Wonder", inspired by a passage from William Shakespeare's comedy "The Tempest".

Fellow movie-maker Stephen Daldry, the creative Director across the Games ceremonies, has revealed that the show will project "a journey which will celebrate who we are, who we were and who we wish to be."

Key feature of the ceremony tells the story of two girls defying their parents to head out on the town, aided and abetted in meeting their friends by social media. Their journey takes them through nightclubs playing music from the great decades of British popular music, from the 60s to the Noughties.

The sequence nods both to musical heritage, as well as Britain’s central role in the invention of the internet, with Tim Berners-Lee thought to feature.

The ceremony has also made use of significant advances in digital media, and these are expected to provide the most spectacular moments.

About 15,000 performers will take part in the creative performances over the course of the ceremony, expected to be viewed by more than a billion fans at home via live TV broadcasts.
