Some 38 more patients of COVID-19 died in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 465 in Sindh. The tally of the coronavirus patients has also risen. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that 5,481 tests were conducted against which 1,247 new cases were detected. "This shows a 23 percent result which is higher than in various countries," he said.
Shah said that 38 more patients died, raising the mortality rate from 1.6 percent to 1.7 percent. The death toll stemming from the coronavirus has reached 465. "I am sorry to say that 310 patients are in a critical condition while 68 of them have been put onto ventilators," he said.
Shah said that at present 13,623 patients were under treatment. "Our home isolation experience is going well, and presently 12,565 patients are being treated at home," he said and added 127 were at the Isolation Centers and 931 at different hospitals. "We are expanding our facilities by establishing two Infectious Diseases hospitals, one at NIPA and the other opposite Karachi University," he said.
Shah said that 522 patients had recovered and returned to normal life. He said that all and all 13,272 patients had recovered so far, the recovery rate being 48.5 percent.
"However, the situation is a little worrisome considering the fact that 522 patients recovered, but another 1,247 have been admitted, a wide gap between admissions and discharge. The health system is coming under pressure," he said.
The chief minister said that out of the 1,247 new cases, 923 were in Karachi while Ghotki had 29 cases, Hyderabad 24, Larkana 23, Jacobabad 22, Sukkur 21, Shikarpur 20, Jamshoro 14, Shaheed Benazirabad eight, Khairpur seven, Mirpurkhas five, Dadu and Kashmore four each and Badin and Thatta three each.
Murad Ali Shah urged the people of Sindh to observe social distancing and wear facemasks when going out.
Meanwhile, the chief minister said that 68 bodies of those who died in the plane crash on May 22 had been identified and handed over to their heirs.
He said that 10 bodies were lying in the mortuary of Chhipa and 19 at Edhi.
"We have identified 29 bodies through DNA, and one DNA is yet to be matched," he said.
