Good news for us to prepare medicine effective in treatment against coronavirus, tweets Hassan

(Karachi) Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Parliamentarian Munaza Hassan has said that Pakistan is amongst those five countries where a medicine 'Remdesivir' will be prepared to treat coronavirus disease.

In a tweet on Friday, she said, "It is good news for us to prepare a medicine that is effective and yields positive results in treatment against coronavirus."

Hassan maintained, "It is a best chance to generate revenue in such hard economic times." She said, "The contract was awarded to the Pakistani company due to the special efforts of the prime minister."

On Friday, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Zafar Mirza announced that Pakistan will start manufacturing coronavirus treatment drug Remdesivir in the next few months after getting license from US pharmaceutical company Gilead.

He said Gilead manufactured the drug and it has proven effective in treating coronavirus patients. “It is said that the use of the drug has reduced the intensity of the virus by 30%."

He continued that Gilead has given a voluntary licence to Pakistan along with five other companies. Zafar said that the Pakistani pharmaceutical company will start production in eight weeks after getting the necessary regulatory approvals.

He highlighted once Pakistan starts the production, the country will be able to export the drug to 127 countries. Terming it a breakthrough news, Mirza said this is an important step forward for Pakistan on the health, economic and diplomacy fronts.
