DOHA: Children from America, Canada, China and Egypt were among the dead from a fire that killed 19 people when it tore through a shopping mall in Qatar, an official said on Tuesday.
Captain Mubarak al-Bouainain, head of information at the interior ministry, also confirmed New Zealand triplets, four Spanish children and a South African boy were killed by Monday's blaze in expat-dominated Doha.
All of those who perished in the fire were foreigners, including two firefighters who were from Morocco and Iran.
Among the others who died was the American girl of Arab origin, the Chinese boy, and an Egyptian girl and boy, who also held French citizenship, according to the French embassy in Doha.
Bouainain confirmed to AFP that three women from the Philippines who worked at the nursery were among the dead, as well as a South African teacher.
He said two firefighters, a Moroccan and an Iranian, also died in the blaze at Villaggio Mall on Monday.
The bodies of the triplets from New Zealand would be repatriated, as well three Spaniards and the Chinese child, in addition to the Moroccan firefighter, he said.
The authorities were holding talks with the employers of the three Filipinas to decide what to do with their bodies, said the official.
The families of most of the Muslim victims have requested to bury them in Qatar, the official added.
