At least 19 people were killed and more than a dozen were injured after an Iranian naval vessel hit another’s missile during a military exercise.

The accident occurred during a training exercise in the Gulf of Oman on Sunday. The Jamaran, a frigate, struck the Konarak, a Hendijan-class support ship, taking part in the exercise, international media reported.

State television said the incident was an accident, adding that the Konarak, which had been putting targets out in the water for other ships to fire on, had stayed too close to a target.
