Petition against creation of 'Tiger Force' rejected

In a huge relief to the federal government, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday rejected a petition challenging the creation of "Tiger Force" to help the government in relief operation across the country in the wake of coronavirus outbreak.

With directives to the petitioner to approach the relevant forum, IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah declared the case as non-maintainable, which was filed by a local body representatives. The chief justice remarked that the federal government was taking measures to address the menace of the coronavirus, adding the court was avoiding interfering in the matters of the executive.

"The COVID-19 pandemic is not limited to Pakistan as it has engulfed the whole world," he remarked.

Justice Minallah remarked that the court had repeatedly given observations that that was high time to develop trust in the state, and demonstrate national unity to tackle the issue.

He said that both federal and provincial governments were taking emergency steps to save the lives of citizens. The court noted that the petitioner had produced no solid record with his case, and subsequently turned down the plea.
