  • The striker could miss up to four months next season for the Reds.

It could be a massive blow for Liverpool as their key striker Mohamed Salah potentially unavailable for selection up to four months next season due to international commitments.

In a worst-case scenario Liverpool could be without Salah for nearly half the 2020-2021 campaign due to the African Cup of Nations and Tokyo Olympics, in what could prove to be a huge problem for manager Jurgen Klopp.

The 27-year-old scored 16 goals in 26 matches in the Premier League for the reds this season.

This is because Egypt bosses are keen for Salah to represent them at the Olympics, which were originally due to take place this summer but have been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The most likely time they are now likely to go ahead is next spring - just when the football season is reaching its conclusion.

Not only Salah, his teammates Sadio Mane, Joel Matip and Naby Keite are likely to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, which is due to go ahead in February.

If Salah does take part in both tournaments it means he could well miss several months of actions for Liverpool.

It remains to be seen whether Salah and the rest of the team will resume action in the current season, with it still yet to be decided whether the 2019-2020 season will be concluded or scrapped altogether.
