  • The Belgium international failed to live up his mark in Spain after completing £130million move from Chelsea last summer.

Eden Hazard has admitted that his debut season at Real Madrid has been bad but vowed to bounce back in next campaign.

The Belgium international failed to live up his mark in Spain after completing £130million move from Chelsea last summer.

During his first injury-hit season, the 29-year-old wingers scored just one league goal.  A reoccurring ankle injury has limited him to just nine La Liga starts after revealing he was eleven pounds overweight when he first signed.

"My first season in Madrid is bad, but not in its entirety,” Marca quoted Hazard.  "It is an adaptation season. I will be judged in the second. It is up to me to be in good shape next year. The group is good.”

"For me it has been a great experience. I still have four years on my contract."

The decision to hold the Euros next year could come as a blessing in disguise for Hazard who was struggling to be fit enough to play in this summer's tournament.

He underwent surgery earlier this month in US, as was doubtful to be back this season which is postponed due to coronavirus outbreak.

Although Hazard revealed he was planning to represent his country in June, he admitted the delay will allow him to get back into shape.

He added: "Since I got injured I had already done a lot ... It would have come in good shape no matter what happened.

"I would have had a lack of rhythm, of course, but the quality is not lost."
