The government may consider converting public transport on CNG, which is more cost-effective and environment friendly clean fuel. In a meeting with the PM's Special Advisor on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam Wednesday, the All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) suggested that the government institutions can significantly reduce smog through promotion of CNG in public transport.
"Public transport should be converted on CNG to reduce pollution, which has added to the problems of the masses. It will also save millions of dollars of foreign reserve being spent on import of diesel fuel for public transport," the APCNGA suggested.
Aslam appreciated the APCNGA's recommendations and assured that the government will take all possible steps to implement these recommendations.
It will not only be beneficial for the common man but also for the economy of the country.
The APCNGA delegation informed media persons that the energy experts opined that the current usage of petrol and diesel in the country was producing toxic carbon dioxide in massive quantity, which needed around two billion trees to absorb.
He said that there was no shortage of CNG in the country due to the LNG policy introduced by the incumbent government that now public transport should use economic and environment-friendly CNG in line with government's decision, and directives of the Supreme Court.
