The United States Embassy in Islamabad on Friday issued a countrywide security alert, restricting the travel by US government employees and asked them to postpone non-essential official movements in the wake of a possible reaction of assassination of a top Iranian commander Major General Qassem Soleimani in a US air strike in Iraq.

"Given possible reactions to recent events in Iraq, the US Embassy has restricted travel by US government employees. The US government personnel in Pakistan are required to postpone non-essential official movements and most personal movements," reads the security alert, posted on the official website of the embassy on Friday.

The Embassy also urged the US citizens in Pakistan to monitor their surroundings for possible demonstrations and suspicious activity. Besides, they were advised to avoid crowds, keep a low profile and be aware of their surroundings.

The Embassy further asked the US citizens to review their personal security plans and exercise caution if they are unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
