Prime Minister Imran Khan has launched Sehat Sahulat Program for transgender community and disbursed cards among them, saying the government would provide health protection to them.
On Monday, speaking after the launch of Sehat Sahulat Program for transgender community, the prime minister stated that transgender community is facing immense difficulties. He said, "We have decided as government to help them."The prime minister said the government decided in difficult economic times to help the weak segment of the society by giving them health cards. He said that he is fully aware how expensive is cancer treatment and this card is important and a step forward to facilitate the poor and transgender community.
He said the government's focus in 2020 would be to create employment opportunities and purpose of NAB ordinance is to create business activities in the country so that the people could get jobs. He claimed that 2020 would be a year of progress.
The prime minister stated that essential commodities would be provided to Utility Sores Corporation outlets at subsidized rates and ration cards would also be issued. More langers would be opened and more loans would be provided to the youth so that they could start businesses, added the prime minister.
A handout of the Prime Minister Office stated that the federal government (Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination) along with participating provincial and regional governments is working for social health protection initiative of Sehat Sahulat Program through provision of Sehat Insaf Card.The program offers financial protection to the poor and vulnerable families against extraordinary healthcare expenditure for in-door treatment at empanelled hospitals across the country in order to reduce financial burden on them in a dignified manner.
Individuals from the transgender community face problems, including health disparities and challenges, for their well being.With the aim to remove these hurdles, the government is promoting equality and social justice for the transgender community and removing hurdles in access to high-cost treatment.
This initiative will cater to individuals of the transgender community registered with NADRA from Islamabad Capital Territory, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and all four provinces.
