PM okays appointments & transfers of 20 envoys, CGs

The government has made several ambassadorial appointments and transfers in various federal capitals and foreign missions, it was learnt.

The government has made several ambassadorial appointments and transfers in various federal capitals and foreign missions, it was learnt.

Sources said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the appointments and transfers of 20 ambassadors and consul generals in various Pakistani missions abroad that also included one major general (retd) and a vice admiral (retd).

Dr Mohammad Faisal, currently serving as Director General South Asia and SAARC as well as the spokesperson for the Foreign Office, has been appointed as Pakistan's new ambassador to Germany while Shafqat Ali Khan as the new ambassador to Russian Federation. Shafqat Ali Khan is currently serving as Ambassador to Poland.

Aisha Farooqui, currently serving as consul general in Houston, is expected to replace Dr Mohammad Faisal as the new spokesperson for the Foreign Office.

Rahim Hayat Qureshi, currently serving as ambassador to South Korea, has been appointed as Pakistan's new ambassador to Iran while Jauhar Saleem, currently serving as Ambassador to Germany, will be Pakistan's new ambassador in Italy.

Additional Secretary Middle East, Mohammad Nadeem Khan, will be Pakistan's new ambassador to Greece while Director General to Europe Malik Mohammad Farooq has been appointed as Pakistan's ambassador to Poland.

Mariam Madiha Aftab has been appointed as Pakistan's ambassador in Bulgaria and Mumtaz Zahra Baloch in South Korea. Dr Ali Ahmed Arain, currently serving as Additional Secretary Africa, will be Pakistan's new ambassador to Senegal and Syed Ali Asad Gillani to Uzbekistan.

Irfan Ahmed will be Pakistan's new ambassador to Turkmenistan and Dr Muhammad Khalid Ejaz in Argentina.

Dr Zafar Iqbal, currently serving as Director General Human Resource & Career Planning, has been appointed as Pakistan's ambassador to Romania and Ahmad Farooq to Denmark. Farooq is currently serving as Director General Counterterrorism.

Dr Saeed Khan Mohmand, who is currently serving as Pakistan's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, has been given a six-month extension to continue his ambassadorial assignment. Sardar Azhar Tariq Khan will be Pakistan's new ambassador to Kyrgyzstan.

Major General Umar Farooq Burki (retd) has been appointed as Pakistan's new ambassador to Jordan and Vice Admiral Ather Mukhtar (retd) to the Maldives.

Zahid Hussain has been appointed as the new consul general in Frankfurt, Samina Mehtab in Chengdu, and Muhammad Tariq Wazir in Manchester.
