Prime Minister presses international community to end Indian atrocities in IoK

• Prime Minister demanded an end to the “gross abuse and atrocities being inflicted on Kashmiri men, women and children" by Indian occupation forces.
•  Situation in Occupied Kashmir took an ugly turn when India withdrew constitutional provisions on August 5 that gave Jammu and Kashmir more autonomy than any other Indian state.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday pressed the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and international law bodies to act against the annexation of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IoJK) by the Indian government.

In a series of tweets,marking the Human Rights Day the Prime Minister condemned the Indian government lock down of IoJK, terming it a ‘siege’ ongoing for over four months and demanded an end to the “gross abuse and atrocities being inflicted on Kashmiri men, women and children by Indian occupation forces in violation of all International Humanitarian & Human Rights Laws.”

“On Human Rights day we must appeal to the world's conscience, to upholders of international law and to the UNSC to act against the illegal annexation of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir by the Indian Occupation govt,” said PM Imran Khan.

Situation in Occupied Kashmir took an ugly turn when India withdrew constitutional provisions on August 5 that gave Jammu and Kashmir more autonomy than any other Indian state.

In retaliation to Modi's government's move, India flooded the region with additional troops, and imposed curfew-like restrictions to keep a lid on protests. Although many curbs, including those on movement have been eased, mobile telephone and internet connections in the Kashmir valley, home to around seven million people, remain cut off.

New Delhi insists that its move in August was essential to integrate Kashmir fully into India and bring development to the Himalayan region, but there is anger and discontent among many locals over the decision.

Despite the curbs, Kashmiris have come out on to the streets, and many shops and other commercial establishments in the held valley have remained mostly shuttered in protests against the withdrawal of the special status.

India has long accused Pakistan of fuelling an armed insurgency in Kashmir, a charge that Islamabad denies.

India also denied entry to international observers in Jammu Kashmir, ripping them of the right to highlight the ground situation and atrocities by the Indian troops. US officials criticized India's move to lockdown Kashmir and also called on New Delhi to ease restrictions imposed on the residents.
