  • The plea against auctioning Ishaq Dar's property was filed by his wife.
  • Dar's movable and immovable assets were seized by NAB last year in September.
  • The former minister has been absconding court proceedings since 2017.

An accountability court in Islamabad rejected on Thursday a plea against the auctioning of former finance minister Ishaq Dar's property in Lahore.

The former minister's wife Tabassum had filed an application in the court requesting it not the auction Dar's property in Gulberg Lahore, as it was her property. During the proceeding, headed by accountability court judge Mohammad Bashir, her request was rejected after which the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will be auctioning the properties.

Last year, NAB had seized Dar's movable and immovable assets after Judge Bashir accepted the bureau's request. The assets included six vehicles, a two-kanal plot in Parliamentarians Enclave, Islamabad, three plots in Al Falah Housing Society, Lahore and six acres of land in Islamabad among other assets.

On Monday, Interpol rejected Pakistan's request to issue a red warrant against the former minister and gave him a clean chit. The interpol has also directed its National Central Bureaus (NCBs) to delete all data files in their systems on Dar. It also urged NCBs to update their national databases accordingly and ensure that the same is done by all national entities that have access to interpol information.

After the Panama Papers revelation, the bureau filed a corruption reference against Dar for owning assets beyond his known source of income. The former minister has been absconding the court proceedings since 2017 and is currently staying in London.

He has already been declared a proclaimed offender by an accountability court due to his failure to appear before the court. The Federal Investigation Agency had also issued red warrants against him.
