Prices of essential commodities, including vegetable, pulses, flour, live chicken, fruits, sugar have risen sharply in retail market, according to survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Sunday.
Consumers have complained that the rising prices of daily use items are unchecked, which is completely out from their purchasing power. They asked the authorities concerned to take immediate steps against profiteers and hoarders to give them a sign of relief. The survey noticed price of tomato has touched new peak as available at Rs90-100 per kg. Also, it added the onion has become costlier which is being sold at Rs70-80 per kg against the price of Rs60 per kg in the previous week.
Price of ginger is almost doubled as being available at Rs400-450 per kg, whereas a sizable increase in prices of garlic was also witnessed in retail market as it was being sold at Rs245-300 per kg, the survey said. It added the price of green chili has sky-high in retail market, which is being sold at Rs300 per kg which was selling at Rs100-120 per kg a few days back. Lemon priced at Rs120 per kg.
The survey witnessed prices peas and capsicum are also touched new heights as available at Rs250 per kg and Rs200 per kg respectively. Arvi is being sold at Rs100-120 per kg which was selling at Rs80 per kg in the previous week.
Similarly, the rate of cauliflower was also beyond purchasing power of common man as available at Rs70-80 per kg while cabbage is being sold at Rs60 per kg. Apple, long and round gourds are being sold within range of Rs60-70 per kg and Rs80 per kg, ladyfinger at Rs80-90 per kg,
Bitter groud (kerala) is being sold at Rs100-120 per kg. Bringle priced at Rs50-60 per kg, a bundle of radish is being sold at Rs20, cucumber available at Rs60-70 per kg.
As per survey, apples are being sold at Rs100-120 and Rs140 per kg, peach at Rs120 per kg, banana at Rs70-80 per dozen, black-coloured plums at Rs100-120 per kg, grapes are being sold at Rs150 per kg, mukesh melon was being sold at Rs150-200 per piece with different size and guava was available at Rs80-100 per kg, pomegranate at Rs150-200 per kg.
According to survey, prices of live chicken/meat have increased at Rs171 per kg against the price of Rs156 per kg in the previous week. A dozen of farm eggs are being sold within range of Rs100-110 and Rs120 in the local market. Cow meat is being sold at Rs350-400 and Rs450 per kg, It was witnessed the prices of flour has increased sharply in local market as 20-kg bag is being available at Rs1000-1050 which was being sold at Rs950-960 per 20-kg bag. Similarly, price of 85-kg bag also increased at Rs4000 and Rs4200-4300 in local market.
Fresh milk is being sold at Rs120-130 per litre against the official fixed price of Rs90 per litre. Similarly, yogurt was available at Rs100-120 per kg against the official fixed price of Rs80 per kg. Gram flour (baisen) is being sold at Rs140 per kg, which was selling at Rs120 per kg. Similarly, the rate of sugar is still high as available at Rs76 and 80 per kg. A 20-kg flour bag is being sold at Rs900-960 per kg which was selling at Rs870 per bag in the previous week.
According to the survey, the prices of pulses/food grains were remained high-side in local market, as no significant change or increase was witnessed in the previous week.
Likewise, Good quality rice (sela) is being sold at Rs160 per kg which was selling at Rs150 per kg in the last week. Toota rice is being available at Rs70-80 per kg. Dal mash is being sold at Rs170-190 against the price of Rs160 per kg.
Big-size white channa was available at Rs140 per kg against the price of Rs130 per kg in the previous week. Similarly, Rs20 per kg surge was noticed in price of red-bean as being sold at Rs150 per kg against the price of Rs130 per kg in the last week.
