  • IHC will also take up NAB's petition challenging Nawaz's acquittal in Flagship case.
  • Nawaz was convicted in the case by an accountability court last year in December.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) decided on Saturday to take up former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s appeals against the Al Azizia verdict on October 29.

A bench comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani will hear the case. The IHC has also set the same date for hearing the petition of the National Accountability Burea (NAB), local media reported. The bureau has challenged the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz's acquittal in the Flagship case.

NAB has also filed an application to increase Nawaz’s sentence in the Al-Azizia case. On December 24, an accountability court found Nawaz guilty in the Al-Azizia reference and awarded him seven years jail time. The court indicted Nawaz under Section 9(a)(v) of the National Accountability Ordinance in the Al-Azizia reference.

The former PM is currently incarcerated at Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore serving his seven-year sentence in the case. On Friday, Nawaz was arrested in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. His daughter Maryam Nawaz and nephew are already arrested in the same case.
