Shahid Khaqan Abbasi remanded into NAB's custody for another 14 days

An accountability court extended on Thursday the physical remand of former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) case.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) presented the PML-N leader before the court. NAB prosecutor requested Judge Shahrukh Arjumand to extend the physical remand of Abbasi as they needed more time to investigate, local media.

Accepting the bureau's request the court extended the physical remand of the PML-N leader for another 14 days.

On July 18, NAB arrested the PML-N leader from Lahore Toll Plaza. As per the arrest warrant, NAB accused Abbasi of ‘commission of the offence of corruption and corrupt practices under Section 9(a) of National Accountability Ordinance (NAO), 1999.’

The accountability watchdog has accused the former prime minister and others of misusing authority and illegally awarding LNG terminal contract for a period of 15 years to a company of their liking.
