3475904ISLAMABAD: The first-ever meeting of Pak-New Zealand Joint Trade Committee (JTC) would be held in Wellington, New Zealand on 15-16 March that would be followed by the 3rd Pak-Australia Joint Trade (JTC) Committee Meeting in Australia on 20 March.

A high level delegation, led by the Secretary Commerce Zafar Mahmood left for New Zealand to attend the inaugural session of the Pak-New Zealand JTC during which the two countries would discuss modalities to work out arrangements for enhancing bilateral trade and identifying areas for cooperation, especially in agriculture and dairy sectors.

It is after persistent efforts by the Ministry of Commerce that meeting was organized and it would be the first-ever meeting of the Pak-New Zealand JTC since its establishment under a bilateral Trade Agreement signed in 1990.

Both sides will deliberate on ways to establish institutional linkages between the two countries to achieve these objectives. It is pertinent to mention here that New Zealand has a strong economy and with a per capita income of US$ 27, 217 per annum, can be a potential market for Pakistani exports.

The Secretary Commerce would also lead a high level delegation for the 3rd Pak-Australia Joint Trade Committee (JTC) meeting in Australia scheduled on 20th March 2012.

In the previous JTC meeting, both sides had deliberated on various issues of mutual interest including agriculture cooperation, double taxation agreement, investment cooperation, capacity building and developing institutional linkages between both countries.

One of the major achievements of the JTC meeting was the Import Risk Analysis of Pakistani mangoes by Australia. The third meeting is going to take stock of the progress made on the decisions taken in the previous meetings.

Both sides will also discuss the need for greater market access in the Australian market for Pakistani products while the marketing strategy for export of Pakistani mangoes in Australia will also be discussed.

Australia has been providing different training and educational opportunities for Pakistani nationals in the recent past and during this meeting too, both sides will discuss the need for developing educational linkages in technical as well as other fields.

It is hoped that the positive outcomes of the 3rd JTC Meeting would be helpful in enhancing bilateral trade and economic relations.
