RAWALPINDI: The ban on kite flying, use of metallic strings and aerial firing was openly being violated in the city and Cantonment areas while Rawalpindi district police in their raids rounded up 15 kite sellers and kite flyers besides recovering over 1000 kites from their possession.
The residents of the city have expressed concern over kite-flying and use of metallic strings for the purpose.
Kite-flying continued in various areas of the city including Pirwadhai, Sadiqabad, Committee Chowk, Waris Khan, Peoples Colony, Tench Bhatta, Dhoke Seydan, Kiani Road, Dhoke Chaudharian, Adyala Road, Bakra Mandi, Masrial and several other areas.
Kite flying continues despite ban as the kites are openly being flown nowadays specially, on Fridays and Sundays and the city administration had failed to implement a complete ban on the activity so far.
On Thursday night and Friday Basanat was celebrated in several cantonment areas as local kite-flying association had announced Basant in and around the Cantt areas.
According to reports, two children were injured in kite-related accidents on Basanat.
The citizens demanded the authorities concerned to strictly implement the ban on Kite-flying, so that road accidents and loss of precious human lives could be avoided.
Haider, a resident urged the authorities concerned to ensure a complete ban on the sale of kites, strings, fireworks and aerial firing.
Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar and officers concerned of the district government were urged to strictly implement the ban as the young enthusiasts are flying kites and found involved in aerial firing.
It is pertinent to mention here that Rawalpindi police claimed to have arrested 15 kite sellers and kite flyers and FIRs were registered against the ban violators as City Police Officer took serious notice of the violations and directed the police to take action without discrimination.
Police also recovered over 1000 kites and 23 kite flying string rolls from their possession.
According to a police spokesman, Ratta Amral police held Umair for having 50 kites and two string rolls. Waseem was sent behind the bars on recovery of 20 kites.
Similarly, Qaiser and Kashif were netted with 210 kites and six string rolls. Sadiqabad police rounded up Bilal on recovery of 85 kites, Hamza with 45 kites and Haris with 60 kites. Gujar Khan police in their raids recovered 200 kites and eight string rolls from Sarwar.
Race Course police held Hamad for possessing 200 kites and three string rolls. Three kite flyers namely Naveed, Kamran, Siddique and others were sent behind the bars on violation of the ban.
