The Sensitive Price Index (SPI) based inflation for combined income groups has witnessed an increase of 0.76 percent during the week ended on September 12, 2019 against September 5, 2019 as it jumped to 125.25 points against 124.30 points, said data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) here on Monday.
According to the PBS, SPI inflation related data based on 2015-16 mechanism covering 17 urban centers and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups, the SPI for combined income groups on annual basis recorded a 17.26 percent increase from 106.81 points on September 13, 2018 to 125.25 points on September 12, 2019.
According to the data, SPI for income group with monthly income of Rs 17,732 has registered an increase of 0.87 percent on weekly basis from 127.07 points to 128.18 points and on annual basis it has went up by 14.53 percent from 111.92 points to 128.18 points. For the income group of Rs 17,732-22,888, the SPI recorded an increase of 0.89 percent from 122.66 points to 123.75 points and on annual basis it witnessed an increase of 15.37 percent from 107.26 points to 123.75 points.
For the monthly income group of Rs 22,889-29,517, the weekly SPI increased by 0.84 percent from 125.24 points to 126.29 points and on annual basis it soared up by 19.13 percent from 106.01 points to 126.29 points. Weekly SPI for the income group with monthly income of Rs 29,518-44,175 went up by 0.81 percent from 122.92 points to 123.92 points and on annual basis SPI for the above income group jumped up by 19.01 percent from 104.13 points to 123.92 points.
For the income group of Rs 44,175 or above monthly income, weekly SPI went up by 0.69 percent from 126.40 points to 127.27 points and on annual basis SPI for the income group witnessed an increase of 17.96 percent from 107.89 points to 127.27 points.
During the week under review, prices of the following commodities witnessed an increase: onion, tomatoes, Lipton Yellow Label tea, farm chicken, eggs, plain bread, Sufi washing soup, Masoor pulse, wheat flour, cooked beef, Mash pulse, tea cup, Moong pulse, mutton, fresh milk, gram pulse, vegetable ghee and mustard oil.
While average prices of 5 items during the week under review registered a reduction which includes local banana, refined sugar, potato, LPG gas cylinder and garlic.
According to PBS, during the period under review prices of 21 items remained unchanged, including petrol, gents sandal, ladies sandal, match box, high-speed diesel, telephone call charges, clothing, powdered salt and others.
