Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that international community has rejected India's false narrative on the illegal and unilateral actions of August 5 in the Occupied Jammu and Kashmir while Pakistan's diplomatic efforts are bearing fruit.
Chairing the third meeting of Kashmir Cell at Foreign Office on Friday, the foreign minister said that Prime Minister Imran Khan in his statement in Muzaffarabad earlier in the day has given a clear message to India and entire world that Pakistan will never leave the Kashmir people alone in their freedom struggle. He said that the Prime Minister will address UN General Assembly session this month and will effectively present the case of Kashmiri people before the world community.
Qureshi said that due to the diplomatic efforts of Pakistan, the international community is now speaking up against the illegal actions and the worst human rights violations under the continued curfew for the last 41 days in the Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. "The way, the world has responded to the grave situation in the Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, is unprecedented," the foreign minister said, adding that civil society, human rights organizations and the international media have expressed serious concerns over the human rights violations in the occupied valley.
He also referred to the joint statement of 58 countries in the UN Human Rights Council recently, adding that the statement was an encouraging move. "Today, the entire world community is speaking up against India's fascist policies in the occupied valley and the fake India's narrative is badly exposing before the world community," Qureshi added.
The foreign minister also apprised the members of the Kashmir Cell of his recent visit to Geneva where he participated and addressed the Human Rights Council to highlight the worst human rights abuses being committed by Indian forces in the occupied valley. Qureshi further said that European Union has also given a positive response on Kashmir, adding that now for the first time Kashmir will be discussed as agenda item in the EU Parliament.
Apart from raising the Kashmir issue in UN Security Council and OIC, the meeting also deliberated upon various legal options to raise the issue at other international platforms. The meeting was attended by Minister for Law Farogh Naseem, Prime Minister's Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting Firdaus Ashiq Awan, civil and military authorities and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
