Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and counsel for Asif Ali Zardari, Latif Khosa has said that the former president is suffering from multiple diseases and he should be shifted immediately to a hospital for treatment. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he said that health facilities are not being provided to Asif Ali Zardari despite the court's orders. He said that according to medical reports, Zardari is suffering from several diseases including critical backbone problem, diabetes, high blood pressure, emotional instability, concentration problems, dementia and others, and his treatment is not possible in jail. He said that the head of cardiology of PIMS recommended air conditioning facility for Zardari.
He said that Zardari was kept in NAB's custody for 68 days and after that he was shifted to prison. He is a former president and sitting MNA and has the right to have a fridge in his room for keeping medicines and a 24-hour attendant. Heart specialist is on record to say that it might be dangerous if air conditioner is not provided to him.
He said that there is need of two attendants in 24 hours for monitoring, giving medicines and checking blood pressure and sugar of Zardari under the directions of court but this facility is not provided. He said that the board of PIMS doctors recommended that Zardari be shifted to a hospital for treatment but he was not shifted. "Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government will be responsible if anything happens to Zardari," he warned.
He said that Zardari's life is in danger because he needs health facilities but the government is denying him medical treatment. He said that in Naya (new) Pakistan, those who speak of justice and the state of Madina endanger the lives of the people, but this injustice cannot be done. He said that domestic situation that has now been created was not even during dictatorships.
He said that every day NAB delivers a "love letter" to the former president and asks to answer a few questions but does not provide basic facilities which a patient requires and the court has issued clear orders in this regard. "We do not have any ill-gotten money so the question of corruption does not arise." Political victimisation is apparent in this case because there is no case whatsoever," he said.
He said that the opposition offered charter of economy (CoE) and consensus on the issue of Kashmir but the government did not accept those. He said that the government is getting loans while the people are in miserable condition due to price hike. He said that there is fiscal deficit, deprivation of rupee, current account deficit and high inflation in the country and the government has failed to overcome these matters.
He claimed that the government has written off Rs 218 billion loan of businessman and industrialist. He said that a total of Rs 450 billion were collected from the people under Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC) while the government had given Rs 218 billion loans to business tycoons. He said that money was collected from the people under GIDC for infrastructure of Pak-Iran and Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline projects.
