President of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) Danish Khan has urged Federal Minister Ali Zaidi, Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar and Commissioner Karachi to take notice of garbage dumping in Malir River He expressed concern over garbage dumping in Malir River during "Clean Karachi" campaign. He demanded to immediately stop illegal dumping.
Danish said that heavy rains are expected in the city and this is an old natural water way for draining rainfall. Hence, he said, garbage dumping into it would destroy all adjacent areas, including Korangi Industrial Area, Mehmoodabad, Mehran Town, Dadabhoy Town, Manzoor Colony and Defense View. He also said that rainwater would inundate the whole area if the authorities concerned wouldn't act timely.
He cited that during his recent visit to KATI office, Sindh Chief Secretary Mumtaz Ali Shah had directed to move garbage transfer station from the locality and ending garbage dumping in the area. "Dumping in the area is already termed illegal through judicial and administrative orders but dumping continues despite those orders," he said.
KATI president said that they welcomed "Clean Karachi" campaign but if dumping garbage of city within city areas instead of throwing it to the landfill sites, it would never bring in any sort of change to conditions relating to cleanliness in the city. Chairman and CEO KITE Zubair Chhaya, senior vice president Faraz-ur-Rehman and vice president Maheen Salman also demanded to take immediate steps against illegal dumping along with EBM Causeway.
